SymRet v1

Fixed-size symbolic graphs: 5 nodes per layer × 6 layers, with 1–2 supports per derived node.

Without forward or backward RHP. Surviving support is restored during retraction; final CF rule propagation remains enabled.

Rules at a glance

RuleOperationv1Behavior
A-1Initial inference✓ IncludedStart from base facts; lower-numbered applicable rules run first.
A-2 · R-1Support history & restoration✓ IncludedKeep each rule activation. The newest valid support wins, including a surviving support with the same value.
R-2Forward retraction✓ IncludedRemove invalid support and restore existing history.
R-2No forward RHP✓ AssumedMaintain existing support during forward retraction. Changed or restored values do not activate new rules or create new downstream beliefs.
R-3Backward retraction✓ IncludedRetract upstream edges / signed beliefs within the selected cut.
R-3No backward RHP✓ AssumedMaintain existing support during backward retraction. Changed or restored values do not activate new rules or create new downstream beliefs.
C-1CF target assignment✓ IncludedAdd the external CF value without a rule justification. Retain existing history and protect the assignment.
C-2Final CF computation✓ IncludedOnly rules triggered by CF and subsequent truth-value changes. Stop propagation when a node’s value stays the same.

Train: 30 graphs · Validation: 10 · Test: 10. Each derived node independently receives one or two initial valid supports. Each graph has one base assignment and four cut variants. Inference uses all nodes; revision questions follow the capped sampling policy below.
